The National Center for Family Philanthropy Announces Promotions:

Sally Jones, Vice President; Dianna Smiley, Vice President; Sarah Trzepacz, Educational Resources Manager

April 3, 2006The National Center for Family Philanthropy announces the promotion of two senior staff members to the position of Vice PresidentSally Jones, from the positon of Managing Director, and Dianna Smiley, from the position of Program Director.  Additionally, Sarah Trzepacz, editor of the organization’s white paper series, Passages, and the National Center's online newsletter, Family Giving News, has been promoted to Educational Resources Manager

These changes reflect our continued efforts to recognize terrific performance and add to the depth of leadership at the National Center for Family Philanthropy. Before joining the National Center in 2001, Sally Jones worked as a business manager for the nonprofit organizations Witness for Peace and the Tudor Place Foundation.  While living abroad, Ms. Jones was an active volunteer in the local and official US community, including overseeing the financial management of the commissary at Embassy Rome and assisting with earthquake relief in Turkey.  She has also held leadership positions with the Canterbury School of Fort Wayne, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.  Ms. Jones participated in the inaugural class of Leadership America, and is active in the Junior League of Washington.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Indiana University.

Dianna Smiley joined the National Center in 2005, with an extensive background in helping families establish charitable plans and in donor education.  Her work at The Oregon Community Foundation led her to develop the Philanthropy Forum educational series for donors and professional advisors.  Earlier in her career, she served as executive director of a corporate foundation in the technology industry, and then worked with individuals and families to support the Campaign for Reed College. She has been active as a volunteer in several scholarship programs and civic activities in Portland, Oregon, where she resided for many years.  Dianna received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Missouri - Columbia, and completed PhD coursework at UC Berkeley.

Sarah Trzepacz joined the National Center after earning a master’s degree in creative writing from the University of Edinburgh in 2003. Prior to moving to Scotland, Sarah served as a web specialist and permissions editor in the undergraduate course development unit at the University of Maryland University College. During her three years at the University, Sarah provided editorial, file management and maintenance assistance, and technical support to UMUC faculty, staff, and students enrolled in undergraduate courses. In addition to her MSc in creative writing, Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Wellesley College.
