Donor Funds Are On the Rise Again
May 27, 2004, The Chronicle of Philanthropy
The Chronicle of Philanthropy reports a 9.4% increase in donor-advised fund assets in 2002-2003 in its annual gifts survey. The increase has been attributed to signs of economic rebound and to a concerted effort by community foundations and charitable trusts—such as the T. Rowe Price Program for Charitable Giving and the Fidelity Investments Charitable Gift Fund—to get the word out on donor-advised funds. In the past year, these and similar organizations have launched large marketing campaigns touting the advantages of donor-advised funds, and featuring lesser-known giving options including real estate donations. Despite some decrease in donor-advised assets in geographic regions hardest hit by the country's economic woes, the promotional tactic appears to be working.
