Pursuit of Excellence Highlights Released

NCFP News, September 2008

Pursuit of Excellence (POE) is a project designed to help family foundations understand their current performance in order to strive for higher levels of effectiveness. It provides a tool for foundation boards to engage in self-assessment and then focus on improving their practice.

In 2008, as a part of this special initiative, the National Center conducted a first-of-its-kind random, representative survey of the key governance and management practices of family foundations.

The National Center is not just a national clearinghouse for useful tools and resources for family giving, but an organization dedicated to helping families put research into practice. The POE initiative has already helped the National Center identify trends, create benchmarks, and fill gaps in resources that address common problems, speak for responsible practices, and expand our information on responsible practices in new and powerful ways.
