Creative Disruption: Sabbaticals for Capacity Building and Leadership Development in the Nonprofit Sector
CompassPoint Nonprofit Services; Third Sector New England,
January 2010
For a small investment, a funder can have a big impact on a nonprofit by providing its leader with time away to rejuvenate body, mind and spirit. Yet only a handful of foundations fund sabbaticals, in part because it's not easy to quantify the impact. Now, thanks to a few family foundations and others who commissioned research to evaluate such programs, there is new evidence demonstrating the powerful impact sabbaticals can have on nonprofit organizations and their leaders.
CompassPoint recently released Creative Disruption: Sabbaticals for Capacity Building and Leadership Development in the Nonprofit Sector, a monograph and report available for download from their website. To learn about the many benefits to nonprofits, some of them surprising, from both a funder and a grantee, see our February Teleconference, The Power of Sabbaticals, with Carrie Avery, President, the Durfee Foundation, and Patti Giggans, Executive Director, Peace Over Violence.
