Reflections on Diversity Published
Rockefeller Philanthropy Associates,
December 2008
Rockefeller Philanthropy Associates and Council on Foundations published Diversity & Inclusion: Lessons from the Field, reflections on diversity from charity and nonprofit leaders. It is the second in a series of three publications on diversity supported by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, which has had a long-term commitment to racial equity. Collectively, we face a time when our nation’s nonprofit and philanthropic sectors are being called upon to do more, to do so effectively and efficiently, and with greater transparency. Although the literature on the relationship between diversity and effectiveness may leave you with some unanswered questions, what is clear is that the public is expecting the philanthropic field to exercise voluntary leadership. The media, lawmakers and the public are calling upon the field of philanthropy with an increasing urgency to demonstrate greater accountability and responsiveness to an ever-growing, diverse society.
