Carlson Family Foundation gives $15 million to University of Minnesota

The Carlson Family Foundation has announced $15 million in gifts to the University of Minnesota, including $10 million to expand the global reach of its business school, the Carlson School of Management. The latest gift is one of the largest since the late Curt Carlson, founder of the Carlson company, donated $25 million in 1986 to the business school that bears his name.

How the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation is Adapting to Uncertain Times

When the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation embarked on a strategic reassessment in 2016, it took a strong step: suspend grantmaking to focus on discovering what it would really take to make an impact in a rapidly changing North Carolina. To that end, the foundation’s new executive director, Maurice Green, went on a listening tour throughout the state. Green describes it as an effort to “provide different strategies that meet people and communities where they are, as well as to break down the silos of our traditional focus areas, allow more flexibility in our grantmaking, and provide multiple entry points for potential applicants.”

Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta Adds Senior Officer to Team

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta adds Terry Mazany to its leadership team as Senior Vice President for Philanthropy. Mazany most recently led the Chicago Community Trust (CCT), one of the nation’s top 10 community foundations, doubling its assets to more than $2.8 billion and increasing annual grantmaking to over $300 million. Mazany will guide the Foundation’s philanthropy team, partnering with the Foundation’s 1,000+ donors who are dedicated to making their region stronger.

Zilber Family Foundation Executive Director Susan Lloyd Stepping Down

Susan Lloyd, executive director of the Zilber Family Foundation, is leaving the private Milwaukee-based foundation after a decade at its helm. Gina Stilp, who was most recently social innovation director at Dohmen Constellations, will succeed Lloyd as executive director, the foundation announced. Lloyd will stay on with the organization in a consulting capacity through the end of the year.

Non-Profit Receives Ueberroth Foundation Grant

The Ueberroth family of Laguna Beach has awarded MOMS Orange County a $50,000 grant. The nonprofit annually helps 3,200 at-risk mothers and their families birth healthy babies. The Ueberroth Family Foundation assists organizations that focus on programs for at-risk youth and vulnerable populations.

The Russell Family Foundation Launches New Facebook Page

The Russell Family Foundation recently launched a Facebook page to highlight the meaningful work of their grantees and share the latest news from the Foundation in an accessible way. This gives them a new channel to engage more deeply with grantees; reach people and communities that are interested in this work and these issues; and engage and share with others the content being collectively produced by their grantee partners and the Foundation.

Bainum Foundation Applauds New District Investments for Infants and Toddlers

The Bainum Foundation is proud to partner with District government and many other committed residents, advocates and leaders — including members of the Birth-to-Three Policy Alliance — to strengthen education and health supports for infants and toddlers, especially in the District’s East End. These latest policy enhancements represent a great step forward.
