FAQs

What is the difference between a Friend of the Family and a Knowledge Center Subscriber?

Those eligible for the Friends of the Family Network include family foundations, donor advised funds, and individual philanthropists who give grants of $100,000 or more per year. Friends share our commitment to the value of family philanthropy and our belief that it should be encouraged and sustained.

Eligible Knowledge Center Subscribers include all other entities and individuals looking to supplement their educational offerings to their members and donors or to assist in their professional work. These subscribers include: community foundations, regional associations of grantmakers, financial and legal advisor firms, philanthropic advisors and consulting firms, and other organizations working to support the growth of effective family philanthropy.

I or my institution is a member of our local regional association. Can I access NCFP’s Knowledge Center and webinars through this membership?

Unfortunately, no. Our partnerships with regional associations have been priced at a level which provides FP Online Knowledge Center access only to their family foundation and private foundation members. To gain access to the Knowledge Center, banks, for profit networks, and financial institutions are required to subscribe separately through one of our packages designed specifically for them. NCFP seeks to ensure that we continue to provide the best possible information to you as you work to serve your clients. Sustaining these services at the high quality you've come to expect requires that we charge for this access, and we ask that you become an FP Online partner.

My institution serves as staff to a family foundation that is a member of our local regional association. May we access the Knowledge Center and webinars as staff members of this family foundation?

Unfortunately, no. While banks and financial institutions sometimes serve as staff (or, in some cases, as board members themselves) for family foundations that are members of regional association, you typically provide paid services to a number of other clients that can use the information and knowledge you gain from the Knowledge Center and webinars. Our board has directed us to charge a separate partnership fee for your access.

Do you offer demos of the Knowledge Center and other services affiliated with a subscription or Friends donation?

Yes, please contact NCFP at 202.293.3424 to arrange for a demo or tour.

May I speak with another individual about their experiences using the National Center’s Family Philanthropy Online service?

Yes, please contact NCFP. You may also wish to review the testimonials above.

How do I pay the subscription fee?

There are two options. The first option is to complete the on-line application form and pay using your credit card on the website. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility to become a Friend of the Family or FP Online subscriber please contact NCFP first. There is a $100 service fee if refunds are necessary.

The second option is to complete the on-line application form for us to review and confirm your eligibility. You can then send a check or credit card information for us to process or pay by credit card on the website.

Can I change my plan?

You may upgrade your plan at any time by paying a pro-rated amount of the difference between your current plan and the upgraded plan. Downgrading of selected plans may be available at your renewal date. Please contact NCFP staff for details.

Is there a monthly payment plan as opposed to annual billing?

Subscriptions are only available for a full year and are automatically invoiced annually.

Is the subscription automatically renewed at the end of the year?

Yes, we will send you a renewal invoice 4-6 weeks prior to the end of your subscription.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations within the first month are fully refunded less a $100 service fee. After the first month, cancellations are not permitted.
