Eileen and Jon Gallo studied affluent families whose children were responsible and well-grounded, in order to recommend methods for shielding children from the potential negative effects of affluence. They found that emphasizing internal motivation, giving an allowance, and encouraging development of interests all helped parents raise well-adjusted children.
