This article from Trusts and Estates looks at some of the advantageous options available to donors and philanthropic families in challenging economic times. ‘Governments continue even in the worst of economic times,’ notes the article’s author, Robert F. Sharpe, Jr. ‘But what of the nonprofit sector? How does this sector fare during difficult economic times? Is it societal ‘fluff’ that only exists during times of prosperity, or is it something that is resistant to the economic downturns that periodically affect the for-profit sector?’ By examining several strategies for making charitable gifts in uncertain times, this article argues for the latter perspective.
