Julie Berrey

Julie Berrey has been a family trustee of the John and Wauna Harman Foundation since 2010 and served as the Foundation’s first Executive Director from 2011–2019. Throughout her tenure, Julie has focused on continuous organizational learning to expand the Foundation’s capacity to affect change through thoughtful philanthropy. She has shepherded the Foundation’s funding activity from simple annual check-writing into a sharply focused grantmaking program intent on improving end-of-life care by emphasizing community outreach, especially in underrepresented communities. Prior to her career in philanthropy, Julie worked as an environmental scientist. She graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and enjoys traveling, studying Italian, and cycling.
