Marshall Ginn is a nonprofit leader, consultant, and facilitator with more than 35 years of experience working with local, regional and national nonprofits and philanthropic organizations. His consulting practice, Capital Philanthropy, focuses on the intersection of philanthropy and grantmaking, nonprofit management, and field building in the sector. He is an application reviewer for Spur Local (formerly the Catalogue for Philanthropy of Greater Washington,) a proposal reviewer for the Unfunded List, and a grants panelist for the City of Austin, TX Art, Culture, Music, and Entertainment grant program. From 2011 to2016 Marshall served as chair of the selection committee for the AIM for Excellence Award Competition, which was managed by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement in Washington, DC.
Marshall’s presentation “Change Up Your Questions: Exploring and Shaping What You Ask Grantees and How You Ask Them” was featured in PEAK Grantmaking’s online convening in April 2026. He is also the co-author of a 2025 Fund for Shared Insight blog post on how good questions are the first step in effective listening. He is certified in the 21/64 approach for engaging with families regarding their philanthropy. He is also a member of PEAK Grantmaking and the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers. When not working as a consultant, Marshall is an oil landscape painter and an active member of the Arlington Artists Alliance in Arlington, Virginia.
