After inheriting the funds in 2017, the Farbman family worked alongside movement leaders to conceive of the Kolibri Foundation in 2019. During the process of determining how they would give, they made three foundational decisions:

  • Centering BIPOC-led movement leadership
  • Resourcing communities and organizations closest to the issues
  • Spending down all of the foundation’s assets.

As Kolibri prepares to spend down its resources by 2027, the foundation remains committed to supporting organizations to drive sustained systems change work for justice.

Join us for a conversation with Eileen Farbman, founding board member, and Claribel Vidal, program manager, who will share practical learnings from their spenddown journey. Hear more about why they made the decision to spend down and how they are working to make a lasting difference in the communities with which they partner.

For those who would like to participate, we will have an additional 15 minutes of networking time at the end of the program.

NCFP’s Strategic Lifespan Peer Network is for board members, foundation staff, advisors, and others in the family philanthropy field that are considering or have decided to spend down their assets. It is chaired by Kate Ritter Repen and Sharon Yazowski. Learn more and join the network here.
